Abraham Feinberg’s 10 spiritual tonics
I ran across these fabulous ideas for living the other day. Abraham Feinberg is a prominent rabbi, singer and social activist – see the link for a biography and much more of his writings. you can find these tenets all over the Internet if you do a search – I liked them enough I thought I’d share them again. let me know what you think:
Ten Spiritual Tonics
1. Stop worrying. Worry kills life.
2. Begin each day with a prayer. It will arm your soul.
3. Control appetite. Over-indulgence clogs body and mind.
4. Accept your limitations . . .
5. Don’t envy. It wastes time and energy.
6. Have faith in people. Cynicism sours the disposition.
7. Find a hobby. It will relax your nerves.
8. Read a book a week to stimulate imagination and broaden your views.
9. Spend some time alone for the peace of solitude and silence.
10. Try to want what you have, instead of spending your strength trying to get what you want.

I like this list too. I’m going to share it.
Great! Thank you.
Just finished reading an article in the October issue of Lydia’s Style magazine, a northern Colorado publication. The article, entitled “Stress-busters” is written by Michael Downey. He offers “10 simple strategies to help you find your pockets of peace.” http://www.stylemagazinecolorado.com
1. “Be mindful…focus-right where you are-on the moment: what you see, hear, smell and feel.” He talks of living in the present, acknowledging worries and negative thoughts and balancing them with positive feelings.
2. “De-stress your commute. The scent of peppermint or cinnamon in your car can ease the agony of traffic jams.” He failed to mention walking or riding your bike.
3. “Staying late again?” You guessed it, he’s talking about leaving your work setting early enough “to recover from the stress of the day.”
4. “Don’t change your routine…stick to mealtimes and bedtime. Take your regular walk. In fact, take it at 4:34pm. That’s the most common meltdown time for overstressed and relapsing dieters.” Who knew that?
5. “Fill this prescription.” He’s talking about laughter.
6. “Lighten up.” With sunlight.
7. “Alternate your life…immerse yourself completely in work for a specified period and then go work-free for a while.”
8. “Try a little petting.” Hmm. Downey is speaking of pets.
9. “Eat to beat stress.” All the things we’ve heard before but need reminded of.
10. “Flee your computer.” Gotta go.
I just have to comment again. A friend forwarded an email with a touching story about a dog. It ended with the suggestion that we take a lesson from a canine friend. To enjoy every moment of every day, doing the things that come so easily if you are a dog.
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you’re not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent,
sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.
