All the finalists for the Modern Love College Essay Contest are officially up (and listed in order below). I find it a fascinating tour. These essays yearn for that connection between people that is deep and filled with passion – desires as old as the first love story. But the old definitions of relationships don’t take into account the individuals, the curious ways we love, the truths of who we are and what we need.
I hope you enjoy these explorations as much as I have. The first two I have posted before, but included them again for your reading pleasure.
As always, feel free to post your comments below. What’s your story of modern love?
“The idea that two people can be happy together, maturing alongside each other, seems as false as a fairy tale. So when a relationship ends, it isn’t seen as bad. It’s held as evidence that the relationship was never any good to begin with.”
I have to say that each of those articles made me a little bit sad, and oh so happy that I have my fairytale. And oh, how happy am I that I don’t have to swim in the pool of “modern love”.
